Miniature Fire Brigade vs. Fire Brigade — Two Separate Series

The Miniature Fire Brigade (QXM, 2004–2006, 3 entries) is a separate series from the standard Fire Brigade (QX, 2003–ongoing, 20+ entries). Both series feature the same 1929 Chevrolet Fire Engine as their launch vehicle — but the Miniature series is in the smaller QXM format and ran only three years before concluding with the firehouse building. The standard Fire Brigade series has continued annually since 2003 with new die-cast fire engines each year. The miniature series is a complete standalone collection of three entries; the standard series is ongoing. Both are at Already Christmas.

"Honor Courage in Small Form" — The Complete Miniature Fire Brigade

The Miniature Fire Brigade series launched in 2004 with the 1929 Chevrolet Fire Engine (QXM5164, #1) — the same vehicle that launched the standard Fire Brigade series the year before. In die-cast metal at the QXM miniature scale, the 1929 Chevrolet captures the open-cab, running-board design of the classic American fire engine in a size designed for miniature trees and close-up displays. The 1929 Chevrolet is among the most iconic American fire engines — the open cab, the hand-cranked siren, the running boards where firefighters stood en route to the fire. In miniature, all of that history fits in the palm of a hand.

The 2005 American LaFrance 700 Series Pumper (#2, QXM2062) is the series' most technically elaborate entry — 4.5 inches wide, die-cast metal, battery-operated light, and turning wheels, sculpted by Chris Webb. The American LaFrance 700 Series was one of the most important American fire apparatus designs of the postwar period, produced from the 1950s through the 1970s and still in service at many departments. The 2006 Firehouse (QXM3096, #3, Final) closes the series with a structural flourish — rather than a third engine, the finale is the firehouse itself: "Firehouse No. 2006," the old-timey station building that houses the brigade. Two trucks. One station. The complete miniature fire brigade assembled.

"Honor courage in small form with Hallmark's Miniature Fire Brigade series — detailed ornaments celebrating service and tradition."

Tips for the Complete Collection

  • 01
Display all three together as a complete fire station scene — two engines in front of the firehouse. The series was designed as a complete set: the 1929 Chevrolet (#1) and the American LaFrance 700 (#2) as the engines, and the Firehouse No. 2006 (#3) as the station they return to. On a shelf or dedicated branch cluster, the two trucks in front of the firehouse creates a complete fire station tableau at miniature scale. This is the display the series was designed for.
  • 02
The American LaFrance 700 has battery-operated light and turning wheels — check the battery before displaying. The 2005 entry (QXM2062, 4.5" wide) features both a battery-operated light and turning wheels — the most interactive entry in the series. One reviewer notes: "While researching this particular fire truck, I was concerned I would have to buy special batteries to make it work." Check the battery type before the holiday season and replace if needed for full effect.
  • 03
These are miniature ornaments — the firehouse scene reads best as a tabletop or shelf display. The QXM miniature format means each piece is small. On a full-size Christmas tree the firehouse scene will be difficult to appreciate from a distance. A small dedicated shelf, a tabletop display, or a miniature tree where all three pieces can be arranged as a scene gives the collection its best showing.
