QEO Format — Hallmark Spring Keepsake · Not Christmas Ornaments

The Sidewalk Cruisers series carries the QEO prefix — Hallmark’s Spring and Easter Keepsake format, released for the spring season rather than Christmas. These die-cast metal riding toy miniatures work beautifully as year-round collectibles: on an Easter display, a spring branch arrangement, a collector’s shelf, or alongside other die-cast vehicle series. The 1997 entry was part of the Spring Collection. They are not Christmas ornaments — but like all die-cast vehicle ornaments, they look excellent wherever vintage riding toy nostalgia is welcome.

The Series · Six Antique Riding Toys · 1997–2002

Die-Cast Antique Riding Toys — Velocipedes, Wagons, and Mickey Mouse

The Sidewalk Cruisers series launched in 1997 as part of Hallmark’s Spring Keepsake collection — six die-cast metal miniatures of antique childhood riding toys from the 1930s, 1940s, and 1950s, each with spinning wheels. The founding entry is a 1935 Steelcraft Streamline Velocipede (QEO8632) — a vintage tricycle manufactured by the Murray Ohio Manufacturing Company’s Steelcraft division in 1935, now recreated in die-cast metal at approximately 2 inches tall. The 1998 entry is a 1939 Mobo Horse (QEO8393) — the British-made bouncing riding horse toy, a beloved post-war nursery staple. The 1999 Garton Delivery Cycle (QEO8367) brings in the Garton Toy Company’s mid-century delivery tricycle. The 2000 Hopalong Cassidy Velocipede (QEO8411) — noted as the hardest to find in the series — features the famous cowboy hero on a die-cast velocipede, 2½” H × 2½” L, wheels turn.

The series closes with two Mickey Mouse entries in 2001 and 2002. The 2001 #5 (QEO8552) is a 1934 Mickey Mouse Velocipede — lime green with a brown seat, Mickey Mouse pictured on the frame, 2½” H × 2¾” L, metal, wheels spin. The 1934 Mickey Mouse velocipede was a real product, manufactured under Disney license by the Sidway-Topliff Company in the early 1930s, now a highly sought antique. The 2002 finale (QEO8516) is the 1937 Mickey Mouse Streamline Express Coaster Wagon — the series’ only wagon entry, closing the six-year Sidewalk Cruisers run with the most recognizable character in the collection.

“Remember riding your tricycle in the driveway or sidewalk? The 1934 Mickey Mouse Velocipede is lime green with a brown seat and Mickey Mouse is pictured on the frame of the tricycle. The hallmark Keepsake Ornament is made of metal and the three wheels spin. Size: 2½” H × 2¾” L”

Tips for the Complete Collection

  • 01
These are QEO Spring ornaments — they display beautifully year-round, not just at Christmas. The Sidewalk Cruisers die-cast vehicles work equally well on a spring branch arrangement, an Easter display, a child’s bedroom shelf, or a dedicated die-cast vehicle collector’s display. They do not need to wait for Christmas. The antique riding toy aesthetic is timeless and seasonal-neutral.
  • 02
All six entries have spinning wheels — display where the wheels can be seen and touched. Every Sidewalk Cruisers ornament was designed with functional spinning or turning wheels. Position them on flat surfaces or forward-facing branches where visitors can see and spin the wheels. The die-cast metal vehicles at 2–2½” scale have the weight and detail of quality miniature collectibles — the wheel detail rewards handling.
  • 03
The 2000 Hopalong Cassidy (#4) is the series’ hardest-to-find entry — it is the rarest of the six. Multiple collectors note that the Hopalong Cassidy Velocipede is the most difficult entry to find in the complete Sidewalk Cruisers set. It is available here at Already Christmas alongside all five other entries.
