"Kind, creative and super-sweet, Gnice loves to build snowmen out of whatever sweet confections he can get his hands on." In the founding entry he built a snowman from a tiered cake. In 2024 he held an ornament in each hand and wore a snowflake star on his head as Gnaughty tangled him up in Christmas lights. Gnice is always the one who ends up dressed as the tree.
A "Gnew" Series — From the Imagination of Gregor Benedetti
The Gnome for Christmas series launched in 2021 with Hallmark announcing it as "a 'gnew' series — from the imagination of Keepsake Artist Gregor Benedetti." Gnaughty and Gnice — two gnomes who are North Polar opposites but the best of friends — made their debut playing hide-and-go-seek around a tiered cake decorated to look like a snowman: Gnaughty resting on the edge of the cake stand and eating away at the sweet treat, Gnice ducking around the base to find him. The founding entry is 2.6" × 3.45" × 2.6". Dated 2021. Gregor Benedetti. The pun in the title is the series in miniature: Gnaughty and Gnice, naughty and nice, the eternal Christmas binary made into two gnomes who have decided that the binary is too limiting and that you can be both, together, every December.
Each annual entry presents a new holiday scenario — a new act of seasonal mischief or friendship — and each year expands the gnome family with companion and limited edition entries. Nutmeg arrived as a companion in 2021. Cinnamon — the little sister — arrived as a 2023 Debut event exclusive. Ginger — another girl gnome perched on a gold present — arrived at the 2024 Debut event. The 2025 5th Anniversary Papercraft brings the series to an anniversary milestone in Gregor Benedetti's signature papercraft format. The 2025 Artist Collaborative "Baking Up Some Fun" pairs gnomes with elves. The world Benedetti built in 2021 keeps expanding.

The Gnome for Christmas universe has expanded well beyond the founding duo. Nutmeg (VIP2002, 2021) was the first companion. Cinnamon — little sister to Gnaughty and Gnice, in a festive red jacket carrying her letter to Santa, "★ SANTA, NORTH POLE" inscribed on the envelope — arrived as a 2023 Keepsake Debut exclusive in limited quantities (2.15" × 2" × 1"). Ginger — a girl gnome perched on a sparkly gold present with a red ribbon, ready to help trim the tree — arrived as a 2024 Debut event Limited Edition (1.18" × 2.8" × 1.18"). And the 2025 Artist Collaborative "Baking Up Some Fun" introduces gnome-and-elf crossover territory. The series that began as a duo is becoming a full holiday village.
Decorating Fun — 2024 · #4 in Series
"Mannequin up for the holidays." The 2024 entry — Gnaughty decorates Gnice like a Christmas tree, with Gnice posed as the tree, a snowflake star balanced on his head, ornaments in each hand, and Gnaughty wrapping him in colorful Christmas lights. 2.3" × 3.2" × 1.65". Artist-crafted by Gregor Benedetti. The description is exact: "Topped with a snowflake star on his head and holding two ornaments in his hands, Gnice strikes a poised pose as the pine tree while Gnaughty tangles him up in colorful Christmas lights." Gnice is the tree. Gnaughty is doing the decorating. The series has always understood that the best holiday mischief involves one person taking advantage of another's good nature — and dressing them as furniture.

Gregor Benedetti is the creator and sole artist of every Gnome for Christmas entry. His design philosophy draws from an unexpected source: puppet characters he watched on television growing up. "I credit that early exposure — and the other experiences I've had as an artist since — with helping me become a master of many styles," he explains. "His distinctive viewpoint results in vibrant ornaments that surprise, delight, and help create special holiday memories." The puppet influence is visible in Gnaughty and Gnice: they are designed with the exaggerated proportions and character-forward aesthetics of puppet figures — large hats, rounded forms, expressive faces, no wasted details. Benedetti is also the artist behind the 2022 Bambi 80th Anniversary Papercraft and the ongoing Twelve Days of Christmas Papercraft series, which explains the 2025 Gnome for Christmas 5th Anniversary Papercraft entry: he brought the format from one of his signature other projects into his own original series for the milestone year.

01Display the five numbered entries in sequence — the annual adventures read as a story in order. Snowman cake hide-and-seek (#1) → ornament box parade (#2) → letters to Santa (#3) → Gnice becomes the tree (#4) → Gnaughty drinks Santa's milk (#5). In sequence the series is a five-year Christmas chronicle of two friends getting into increasingly well-organized mischief. The mischief escalates annually. In 2021 Gnaughty ate a cake. In 2025 he drank Santa's milk.

02The 2023 Cinnamon and 2024 Ginger Limited Editions are the hardest to acquire — both were Debut event exclusives. Cinnamon (little sister, Debut 2023) and Ginger (on the gold present, Debut 2024) were both produced in limited quantities and first available only at Keepsake Ornament Debut events. For anyone building the complete Gnome for Christmas family — all five gnome characters — these two are the entries most likely to require searching. If you find them here, get them.

03The 2025 5th Anniversary Papercraft (QXE3562) is the series' anniversary milestone in Benedetti's signature format. Gregor Benedetti works across multiple formats — sculpted resin (the numbered series), papercraft (Bambi 80th, Twelve Days 3rd series). The 2025 Papercraft brings his papercraft style to his own Gnome for Christmas characters for the first time, at the 5th anniversary. It is the most formally distinctive entry in the collection.
