"It's Show Time" — From Tim Burton's 1988 Film to the Keepsake Catalog

Tim Burton's Beetlejuice was released on March 30, 1988 — a supernatural comedy about a recently deceased couple (Alec Baldwin and Geena Davis) who haunt their former home and hire a freelance bio-exorcist named Betelgeuse to drive out the living family that has moved in. Michael Keaton's Beetlejuice — loud, chaotic, striped, wild-haired, impossible to ignore — became one of the most distinctive characters of the decade. The film grossed over $73 million against a $15 million budget, won the Academy Award for Best Makeup, and launched an animated series. It waited 36 years for a sequel: Beetlejuice Beetlejuice arrived in September 2024, bringing Michael Keaton back alongside Winona Ryder returning as Lydia Deetz and Jenna Ortega as Lydia's daughter Astrid.

The Hallmark Beetlejuice collection opened in 2015 with the founding ornament — Beetlejuice in his black-and-white striped suit, the character instantly recognizable in resin form. In 2017, Kristina Gaughran sculpted the collection's centrepiece: the "You Think I'm Qualified?" Magic Sound ornament, at 2.93" × 4.88" × 2.22", which plays memorable lines from the film in Michael Keaton's actual voice when you press the button. Collectors describe it as containing a long scene from the movie with good sound quality — not a brief clip but a substantial audio moment. The 2025 "Here Lies Beetlejuice" Magic Light entry brought the collection into the sequel era: a tombstone that lights up, the graveyard setting that is Beetlejuice's natural habitat, illuminated on the Christmas tree.

"It's show time! Straight from the grave to your tree, this Christmas tree ornament features the afterlife's foremost bio-exorcist, Beetlejuice. If you're a fan of the hilarious antics of the classic movie, we think you're qualified to add the ghost with the most to your collection."

"You Think I'm Qualified?" — 2017 · Magic Sound

Artist Kristina Gaughran's 2017 "You Think I'm Qualified?" is the Beetlejuice Keepsake collection's most interactive and most sought-after entry. At 2.93" × 4.88" × 2.22", it is Beetlejuice at his most characteristic — mid-pitch, mid-rant, in full striped-suit splendour. Press the button and hear Michael Keaton's actual voice deliver memorable lines from the 1988 film. Not a brief sound clip but, as collectors note, a long scene from the movie with good sound quality. Two LR44 batteries are included. The ornament was first available after the 2017 Hallmark Ornament Premiere Event (July 15–23, 2017) — meaning serious collectors had it before the general public. "The afterlife's foremost bio-exorcist" is the line on the box. On the tree it is simply the ornament you press to make Beetlejuice speak.

Tips for the Collection

  • 01
The 2017 Magic Sound ornament belongs where guests can press the button. The "You Think I'm Qualified?" ornament plays a long scene from the film in Michael Keaton's voice when you press the button — making it the most interactive ornament in the collection and the one that most rewards display at an accessible height. Position it on a lower or outer branch where visitors can reach it easily. Nothing says holiday party more than pressing a button and hearing Beetlejuice launch into his qualifications monologue.
  • 02
Display all three as a two-film arc — 1988 original to 2024 sequel. The 2015 and 2017 ornaments represent Tim Burton's original 1988 film. The 2025 "Here Lies Beetlejuice" represents the 2024 sequel Beetlejuice Beetlejuice and Michael Keaton's return to the role. Arranged on adjacent branches they show the character across nearly four decades: the founding film and the sequel that proved the ghost with the most still had something to say. Display the 2025 Magic Light where the tombstone's glow is visible.

The 2015 founding entry — black-and-white stripes, the bio-exorcist in resin. Kristina Gaughran's 2017 "You Think I'm Qualified?" — 4.88 inches tall, Michael Keaton's voice at the press of a button, a long scene from the film, the most collectible Beetlejuice Keepsake ever made. Eight years of waiting. Then the 2025 "Here Lies Beetlejuice" tombstone, lit up, the sequel's graveyard aesthetic on the Christmas tree. Three ornaments. Two films. One ghost with the most. It's show time.
