From Pandora to the Tree — Thirteen Years Between Ornaments
James Cameron's Avatar was released on December 18, 2009 — and became the highest-grossing film of all time, a record it held until Avengers: Endgame in 2019 and briefly reclaimed after a 2021 re-release. The film follows Jake Sully, a paralyzed Marine who takes his deceased twin brother's place on a mission to the moon Pandora, where he remotely operates a Na'vi hybrid body. He ultimately sides with the indigenous Na'vi people — tall, blue-skinned, bioluminescent — against his own military forces. Hallmark released a Jake Sully Keepsake in 2010 — one year after the film's release. Jake Sully embarked on a journey like no other when he replaced his brother to travel to the moon Pandora. The 2022 Neytiri and Seze is the collection's most visually dramatic ornament: Neytiri as an Ikran Makto (banshee rider) flying on her bonded banshee Seze, at 6.65" × 1.37" × 5.51" — one of the widest ornaments in the Keepsake catalog, nearly seven inches of wingspan. The 2023 Jake Sully on Skimwing followed, and the 2024 Payakan the Tulkun recognized the film's most unexpected relationship: the exiled Tulkun — the whale-like creatures sacred to the ocean-dwelling Metkayina clan — who befriends Jake's son Lo'ak in the film's most affecting subplot. Hallmark chose a supporting creature over the film's main characters for the 2024 entry. It was the right call.

At 6.65" × 1.37" × 5.51", the 2022 Neytiri and Seze is one of the widest ornaments in the Hallmark Keepsake catalog — nearly seven inches of banshee wingspan. Neytiri as an Ikran Makto (banshee rider) in full flight on her bonded creature Seze, the banshee's wings fully extended. The Tsaheylu — the neural bond between Na'vi and their bonded creature — is the central visual metaphor of the Avatar films: the idea that genuine connection is the most profound form of power. The ornament captures it in flight, at a scale that demands a branch with room to breathe.

Payakan the Tulkun — 2024
Payakan is a young Tulkun — one of the whale-like beings sacred to the ocean-dwelling Metkayina clan — who was exiled after the deaths of others during a confrontation with the RDA. He befriends Lo'ak, the son of Jake Sully and Neytiri, forming the film's most emotionally resonant relationship. Recall the friendship between a Tulkun and a member of the Metkayina clan — Lo'ak befriends the exiled whale-like creature and helps him fight against the destructive RDA. Hallmark chose Payakan for the 2024 entry over more obvious characters. It was the right call: Payakan is the heart of The Way of Water, and this ornament knows it.

01The 2022 Neytiri and Seze needs a branch with clear space on both sides. At nearly 7 inches wide, this is among the largest Hallmark Keepsakes produced. Give it a long outer branch near the middle of the tree where the banshee's wingspan extends without hitting adjacent ornaments. Hang it slightly lower than the top of the branch so both Neytiri and the full wing silhouette read clearly. This is the ornament that stops visitors mid-sentence.

02Display the 2010 Jake Sully and the 2022–2024 entries as two distinct eras. The 13-year gap between the 2010 ornament and the 2022 trilogy is part of the collection's story — the same gap as between the films. The 2010 entry belongs to the original Avatar world; the 2022–2024 entries belong to The Way of Water's ocean world. Display them with a little space between to acknowledge the timeline they represent.

Visitors who know the film will immediately recognize Payakan and understand why Hallmark chose him — he is the emotional center of The Way of Water.
