We're All Mad Here — From Lewis Carroll to Your Tree

Disney's Alice in Wonderland was released on July 28, 1951 — the 13th Disney feature film, directed by Clyde Geronimi, Wilfred Jackson, and Hamilton Luske, and based on Lewis Carroll's 1865 novel Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. The film features Alice falling down a rabbit hole into a world governed by surreal logic, memorable characters, and the tyrannical Queen of Hearts whose solution to every problem is "Off with their heads!" The film was not a commercial success on initial release but has grown in cultural stature ever since — its visual language (the blue dress, the white rabbit, the Cheshire Cat's grin, the flamingo croquet mallets, the talking flowers) has become among the most instantly recognizable in animation.

Hallmark's Alice in Wonderland collection spans 2018 to 2026 — six ornaments capturing five different Wonderland characters and moments. The collection is notably character-diverse: unlike most Disney Keepsake collections that center on a protagonist, the Alice in Wonderland entries give equal attention to the villain (2018 Queen of Hearts Debut Exclusive), the protagonist (2021 Alice, 2025, 2026), and the supporting cast (2024 Cheshire Cat, 2026 White Rabbit). The 2026 75th Anniversary pair — "An Extraordinary Situation" and the White Rabbit Limited Edition — arrive as the film marks its three-quarter century. The rabbit hole is deep and the Hallmark collection is still descending.

The Cheshire Cat in a New Style — Funko POP! × Hallmark 2024

The 2024 Cheshire Cat (QXD6851) is the collection's most unusual entry in format — a Funko POP!-style ornament, the collaboration between Hallmark and Funko that renders the Cheshire Cat in the distinctive vinyl-figure aesthetic of the POP! line: large head, small body, black eyes. The Cheshire Cat is already the most stylized character in Alice in Wonderland — a cat who disappears leaving only its grin, who gives deliberately unhelpful advice, who exists primarily as a visual and philosophical provocation. In Funko POP! format, his stylization is doubled: a stylized character rendered in a stylized format, grinning from a branch on the Christmas tree. We're all mad here. That's rather the point.

Tips for the Collection

  The 2018 Queen of Hearts is the collection's rarest entry — the Debut Exclusive is worth prioritizing. First available only at the 2018 Keepsake Ornament Debut event in limited quantities, the Queen of Hearts is the ornament that non-collectors notice first and ask about most. A queen with a flamingo mallet and a hedgehog ball on the Christmas tree is genuinely funny in exactly the way Carroll intended — the game is unplayable, the Queen is furious, the animals have their own opinions.

  Display the 2024 Cheshire Cat and the 2025 Alice & Cheshire Cat as a pair. The Cheshire Cat appears in both 2024 (Funko POP! solo) and 2025 (with Alice in the standard Keepsake format) — the same character rendered in two completely different visual styles on adjacent branches. The contrast between the Funko POP! stylization and the standard Disney Keepsake format is itself a small piece of Wonderland logic: the same cat, two ways, equally valid.

  Pre-order the 2026 White Rabbit Limited Edition early. The White Rabbit 75th Anniversary Limited Edition (QXE3566) follows the pattern of other Hallmark event-first Limited Editions — produced in limited quantities, first available at Keepsake events before wider release. The White Rabbit is already chronically late; the ornament need not be.
