That is the premise of A World Within, Hallmark's miniature Keepsake ornament series launched in 2015 — and it is as enchanting in practice as it sounds on paper. Each year, artist Tammy Haddix designs a new ornament roughly an inch tall, and inside or upon that tiny object, she carves or sculpts a complete little scene. The results are some of the most intricate and technically demanding ornaments in the entire Hallmark Keepsake catalog.

The series is also, quietly, one of the most personal things Haddix has ever made. She created it in honor of her late grandmother Tropha — a woman whose love of ornaments and Christmas spirit clearly shaped her granddaughter's entire career.

Now in its eleventh year, the series has explored stars, pinecones, lanterns, snow globes, mushroom huts, and more — each one a tiny portal into a world Haddix has imagined with extraordinary care. It is, in her own words, exactly what she loves to make: "I love creating little worlds like this. I love terrariums and things like that — any scene you can create that draws the viewer into it."
